The following is a message from Randy Hillier MPP.
I’ve heard from many people from my riding and throughout Ontario regarding industrial wind turbine developments in their communities, and how municipal governments are being coerced into supporting these developments against the peoples’ wishes.
On Thursday, November 5, I questioned the government on their apparent tolerance of this dubious and problematic policy. I have included a link to the video of my questions to the Minister, and included the press release I subsequently issued outlining the problems.
If you share my concerns with these practices, I encourage you to write the Premier, the Minister of Energy, the Attorney General and the Independent Electrical System Operator (IESO) to give voice to your concerns. Their contact information is included near the bottom of this email.
If you’d like to keep up with my continuing efforts on this, please follow me on Twitter and Facebook. -Office of Randy Hillier 416-325-2244
Corruption Acceptable? Liberals Won't Answer
QUEEN’S PARK – MPP Randy Hillier (Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington) exposed the complacent nature of the Attorney General when it comes to holding her seat mate, the Minister of Energy, accountable for the questionable business practices being undertaken in the energy sector here in Ontario.
Hillier tallied the numerous legal issues surrounding one of the biggest Liberal friendly wind developers in the province, NextEra, including an investigation from the US Justice Department regarding allegations of NextEra violating the United States' Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Additionally the Ontario government is also facing a lawsuit over allegations they manipulated the Green Energy Act rules to benefit the interests of Liberal-connected firms, namely NextEra.
Hillier’s question focused on allegations that NextEra has promised large sums of money to municipalities in exchange for favourable motions passed that would make it appear these municipalities where willing hosts for these projects and result in millions of dollars of contracts awarded to NextEra. Numerous local groups have tirelessly opposed these projects and local residents have stated to their municipal representatives that they are not willing to host these new wind turbine projects.
“It’s been clear to anyone following this issue that these communities are not willing hosts to these projects,” Hillier said. “These aren’t typical ‘community vibrancy funds’, because they coerce municipal governments to enact resolutions to support and promote foreign owned companies,” he added. “With the way the Attorney General has allowed the Minister of Energy to have these types of business practices continue under their Green Energy scheme together they have tarnished Ontario’s reputation and brought the administration of justice into disrepute.”

I wish I could ask the government ten questions a day - I know this is a far reaching problem that effects many communities throughout Ontario and in my riding!
